Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) is for an employee who has their own serious illness or an employee's spouse, child, or parent that needs the help of the employee for the care of their serious illness.
It is NOT paid sick leave. However, if the employee has any sick, personal and/or vacation time, that can and is expected to be used. If applicable, an employee may ask their union for sick bank days upon the exhaustion of their sick, personal and/or vacation time.
It is for any contracted employee that has been with the district for at least one year.
If applicable, the employee may have 12 weeks of FMLA, either taken sporadically over a school year or consecutively.
