Homeschooling Information
Belleville Henderson Central School District supports families who choose to educate their children at home in accordance with New York State regulations. The following information will help you understand the process and requirements for homeschooling.
Eligibility

Children between the ages of 6 and 16 are required to attend school under New York State law.

Parents or guardians may provide instruction at home instead of attending a public or private school.
Notification Requirements

Parents must submit a Letter of Intent to Homeschool to the school district annually before the start of the school year.

The letter should include:

Student’s name and date of birth

Parent/guardian name and contact information

Statement of intent to provide instruction at home

Educational Requirements
-
Instruction must be equivalent in quality and quantity to that provided in public schools.

Homeschool programs should cover the New York State Learning Standards in subjects such as:

English Language Arts

Mathematics

Science
-
Social Studies

Health
-
Physical Education

The Arts

Progress and Record-Keeping
-
Parents are responsible for maintaining records of student progress, including:

Attendance records

Work samples or portfolios

The district may request periodic updates or evaluations to ensure the program meets state requirements.

While homeschooling is parent-led, the district can provide guidance, including:
